A client came to us with a BMW F48 showing SCR system errors. The problem was a broken heater in the ADBlue fluid supply line. At the owner’s decision, it was decided to disable the system. An important condition was that the DPF (diesel particulate filter) system had to remain operational. The vast majority of BMW vehicles allow this to be done without consequences. There is also a small torque reserve that can additionally be unlocked without putting strain on the fuel system or the particulate filter.

In this article we will walk you through how we do it. We will describe the workflow, the equipment used, and the ECU installation points.

Equipment used:

Ista+ 4.50/40

Pcm Flasher 1.4.6 (module 92)

Power Box for PCM Flasher

Scanmatic2

Initial diagnostics:

Removing the engine control unit:

The engine control unit is located next to the battery

Connecting the engine control unit on the bench:

Connecting the engine control unit on the bench:

PCMFlash pinout

Firmware reading process

Disconnect the connector from the SCR unit

What we achieved as a result

We completed the firmware update with full SCR system deletion along with a minor performance tune.

We tested the car — everything works great, dynamics improved significantly, no SCR system error codes, and the DPF is operating correctly.

No smell or smoke.
